As part of the SPACE Explorer programme, Space Evening workshop was conducted for classes I-X on 28th January 2023. The aim of the workshop was to uplift the passion of learning amongst students towards astronomy through hands on experience.
Students of classes I and II were introduced to various phases of the moon through visual storytelling. Students were fascinated watching the Moon through a telescope and observing its craters along with the dark and bright areas on it. They observed and identified the phase of the Moon through an activity.
The workshop for classes III- V started with a detailed presentation on all the planets and some other interesting facts about astronomy. Post presentation, an activity was conducted to understand the creation of craters on the surface of moon. The students were familiarised with the concept of the phases of the Moon and the movement of the Moon and the Earth. Students enjoyed observing Moon and different planets through telescope. At the end, they also had a sky tour and came to know about various constellations, bright stars, and planets.
Class VI-X participants were given a presentation to make them understand the working and handling of a telescope using two major properties of light, namely- refraction and reflection. They analysed the difference between a refractor and a reflector telescope through demonstrations and observations. They observed the Moon, its craters, located various planets and observed their features through telescope.
